Muse of the Month, Megan

Our January "Muse of the Month" is up on our Facebook page! It is the lovely Megan who got married in September, 2009 at the Broooklyn Botanic Gardens, a fabulous spot for a wedding, as you can see from the photos. Megan wore the "Melanie" veil with her gorgeous Lazaro gown.

Megan's style is the perfect combination of easy elegance. Her hair which is swept to the side in an easy style is accented perfectly with the Melanie veil and her gown's beaded waist adds the perfect touch of glamor to the soft lines of the dress.

I love the theme of her wedding, "Tropics in Brooklyn". The stunning bouquet and floral arrangements brought a tropical feel to the already lush Botanic gardens. Perfect!

Happy Holidays!

Best wishes for a wonderful holiday and a fabulous New Year!

We will be taking a winter break and will be closed Friday, December 23rd through Monday, January 2nd.

We look forward to seeing you in 2012!

Muse of the Month, Alissa

We received these gorgeous photos from a BHR bride, Alissa, who had an intimate beach wedding in Miami on July 16th. Alissa is wearing a Penelope veil in tulle and the 503 crystal comb, which worked perfectly with the two gowns that she wore - a beaded and draped Kleinfeld gown for the ceremony and a strapless Jenny Packham gown for the reception.

I love how she combines an incredibly elegant look with a fun twist.

Go to Bride's Head Revisited's Facebook "welcome" page to read more about Alissa, and don't forgot to "like" us. We will be updating the page with a new "Muse of the Month" with more fabulous BHR brides.

Bella Revisited

Emily and I met while working at the Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and for the six years we were there, we were surrounded by the most amazing examples of fashion through the ages. When we started to design bridal accessories, we naturally were inspired by fashions and styles of the past and we're always fascinated by contemporary designs that are also inspired by historical fashions. So, when the long awaited "Twilight" wedding dress finally made an appearance:

Emily e-mailed me the famous 1970 image of the lace-back dress by Yves Saint Laurent:

Who was obviously inspired by 1940's fashions from such designers as Elsa Schiaparelli:

I suppose that if you were marrying a 110 year man, it would be fun to wear a dress that combines the styles of the past century.

Kentucky Bride

The summer 2011 issue of Kentucky Bride Magazine has some fabulous photos of Bride's Head Revisited designs.

Our #653a flower is paired with a stunning dress by Carrafina. I love how the flowery ruffles work so perfectly with the silk net flower which has a hint of champagne color in the crystals scattered in the center.

Our popular Leila veil is another great accent for the Carrafina dress. This is a great example of how different accessories can really change the look of a dress. Both the flower and the veil look fabulous with the gown, but each gives it a unique touch.

Flower Power

Many brides who have gowns ornamented with flowers are faced with the conundrum of what they should wear in their hair. Should they continue the flower theme with a silk rose tucked into their updo, or would a flower be too much? The spring/Summer Regional issue of The Knot Magazine has one solution to the flower question. In "The Magic Garden", they have paired the stunning Rivini gown dripping with flowers and pearls with our #522 hairpins.

Brides may be afraid that if they wear flowers in their hair along with a floral gown, they run the risk of looking like an unpruned rose bush that's just had a run-in with a french pastry. The trick, as seen in The Knot’s styling, is to find a flower that complements the gown without trying to exactly copy the flowers on the gown. The #522 hairpins work beautifully because the pouf of petals accented with light feathers continue the “floral” theme without being a “flower” that might not quite match the flowers on the dress, or might match too much. The hairpins are also very versatile, they allow the bride to wear two or more in an updo for a more lush, fuller look.

If you have a floral gown, don't be afraid to wear flowers in your hair. With the right floral comb you can finish off your floral style with elegance without looking like a floral show.
